2-on-1 : A situation where an offensive player has beaten his/her defensemen to create a man advantage going into the offensive zone (3-on-2, 4-on-3, 5-on-4 are similar types of situations).

5x5 Position : The spot on the field that is 5 yards wide of the Goal and 5 yards above GLE. This is a position that offensive players attempt to get to in order to get a high percentage shot on goal.

Around The World : Similar to a behind the back except the stick is wrapped around the opposite direction and the shot comes from over the shoulder of the shooting hand.

Behind the Back : The act of shooting or passing from behind one's back or over the back shoulder.

Checking : Occurs when a defending player has contact with an offensive player; also refers to when a defending player has contact with the stick of an offensive player.

Clamping : The act of securing the ball during a face-off by pinning the ball between the pocket / head of the stick and the ground.

Clear : When one team is attempting to move the ball from their defensive end of the field to the offensive end.

Cradling : The rocking motion of the stick used to gain a feel for, and to maintain control of, the ball.

Crease : An area around the goal that opposing players are forbidden to enter.

Crease Man : The offensive player who plays the crease position (also see Crease Position).

Cross Field Pass : When a player passes the ball from one side-line to the other. Often refers to a defensemen who is clearing the ball by passing it to another player on the other side of the field.

Dead Ball : When the ball goes out of bounds and the official put hands in the air allowing teams to sub on the fly.

dodge : A one-on-one move where a ball carrier is attempting to get past his defensemen. This often refers to when a player is trying to beat his defensemen to score a goal.

Double Team : When 2 defensemen play 1 ball carrier.

Extra Man Offense : When the offense has an extra man on the field due to a penalty.

Face-off : A method of starting or re-starting play (also see Draw).

Face-Off Man / Fo-Go : The player that takes the face-off. A Fo-Go is short for Face-Off and Get Off and refers to the specialist who only takes face-off.

Fake : Performing a movement without completion in an attempt to fool the opponent (e.g. faking a pass or a shot).

Feed : When the ball carrier passes to an offensive player that is in position to shoot.

Goal Line : The chalk line between the pipes of the goal. A goal is only scored if it crosses this line.
